There’s Audio, but what about MIDI Copy & Paste?

UPDATE: MIDI COPY AND PASTE IS COMING FROM SONOMA WIRE WORKS!

Somebody should make MIDI copy and Paste for iOS… Audio Copy & Paste from Sonoma Wire Works was a brilliant idea. iOS musicians can now record, mix, or edit any audio sample made in any app that’s supported. It’d be great if we could do the same with MIDI. AC&P really allows apps to work together, a feature that iOS (simply because it’s a mobile OS) doesn’t really allow.

Anyway, MIDI C&P would be extremely useful. You could record/edit an app that you like to record and edit in, and then bring that MIDI data over to another app that has the sound you’re looking for, bypassing all of the emailing and opening MIDI files in different apps.

[iPHONE APP REVIEW] Musicopoulos: Music Theory & Practice

Musicopoulos is a decent music theory app, you could probably find most of its information online for free, but, it is a nice note recognition app for musicians of all levels. You are given four levels of difficulty: (tap on a clef to not be quizzed on its notes)

  1. Clef Notes: Simply practice identifying notes in the key of C Major (no sharps or flats) with no accidentals (you will not be presented notes that are sharp or flat).
  2. Clef Notes – Sharps & Flats: Practice identifying notes in the key of C Major (no sharps/flats) with accidentals.
  3. Key Signatures: You are asked to identify the key, given a key signature.
  4. Clef Note and Key Signature: You are asked to identify notes with accidentals, in any key.

Unfortunately there is no option to identify the notes on a piano, hopefully this will be added in the future, after all, the piano is an instrument every musician should know how to play.

Guitar Pro Update with Several Fixes

Circle measure note prediction displays all the notes played
in each measure by hollow circles, giving you a heads
up of what notes are coming next. This makes learning
riffs a lot faster. The app does the same on piano as well, but
currently only for .GPX (Guitar Pro 6) files.

I love this app, it’s (currently) cheaper than TabToolKit, and has the circle measure note prediction feature (start watching at 1:55) (for all the supported files) which helps you learn riffs and licks a lot faster. The only thing Guitar Pro doesn’t do is display the piano for GP 5, 4, 3, and Power Tab files, but the developers are planning to add this soon.

Here’s whats fixed in v1.0.6:

  • fix unicode lyrics,
  • fix tempo for dotted reference note,
  • fix tempo import from GP5 when information was not on the first track.
