What Jordan has to Say about Geo Synthesizer…

iPad Screenshot of Geo Synthesizer by Jordan Rudess

Yet another beautiful looking, and sounding touch instrument from Jordan! And, I’m thrilled to be able to add it to the Core MIDI, and Virtual MIDI port app lists!

Here’s what Jordan has to say about his new app:

“Since touching a preliminary piano keyboard on an iPhone screen and realizing the amazing potential for musical expression on a multitouch device, I have been inspired to create next-generation musical instruments for iOS. Geo Synthesizer is a dream come true in many ways. It is the fastest truly playable iOS instrument that I have put my hands on to date. I can fly through the range of an instrument while expanding on the kind of advanced pitch control we introduced in MorphWiz. As someone who grew up with synthesizers, I can tell you that pitch bending has never been this good!”

Those are some inspiring words, who would’ve thought we’d be using tablets and smartphones as musical instruments…

(I wish more developers would allow you to do this…) Hear it before you buy it!

Is there an App that Supports Sonoma Audio Copy/Paste AND Intua PasteBoard?

UPDATE: Thanks to obis for commenting below! AudioView (App Store) for iPhone (compatible with iPad, but not designed for iPad…) supports both! In fact, in it’s description on the App Store it says:
“Full support for Sonomawireworks AudioCopy and Paste as well as Intua’s Pasteboards. This makes AudioView in essence a bridging app between these two exchange formats. Copy music files from Beatmaker into FourTrack, from Dopplerpad into Beatmaker right on the device without need for a desktop or laptop.”
…Sweet!

Original Post:
Someone asked this excellent question via the Help/Topic Suggestion forum” “I’ve been messing around with NanoStudio, trying to AudioPaste something to the drum sampler and then copy it to the Intua Pasteboard to use in GarageBand. It seems to only copy to the Sonoma pasteboard though… Does anybody know of an app that supports both?!? There’s gotta be at least one that can bridge the gap. I’m going to post a list if there’s more… It’d be nice if there was a free app that supported both. Then it wouldn’t matter which service an app supported. I don’t know why there has to be two audio copy/paste services, it just makes things more complicated…..”

Here’s my list of Sonoma ACP apps and a list of Intua Apps if you’d like to help me hunt. As usual, comment below…

Quick App Tip #11: Loop vs. Table Editing in TableTop

Loop Mode
Table Mode

The purpose of the switch to the right of the Loop Indicator (center) remained a complete mystery to me until I finally got around to looking it up in the TableTop manual.

In Loop Mode, changes made to anything in the workspace only effect the loop you’re currently editing. In Table Mode, changes are made to every loop.

Quick App Tip #10: Song Section Reordering and Duplicating in GarageBand for iPad

GarageBand for iPad makes it easy to arrange or duplicate different sections of a song. Just tap the Song Sections button in the upper left hand corner and choose edit. The duplicating feature is useful whenever you have a part that you need to repeat, but make minor changes to…

What Apps Need: Music Studio, NanoStudio, BeatMaker 2: Song Sections

GarageBand for iPad has this, and it’s soooooo useful! If you’re in an app like Music Studio, and your song is anything more than 30 measures, you dont want to constantly be zooming out and hunting for the next part of the song you want to work on. GarageBand’s ‘Song Sections’ feature takes complete care of this. You can zoom in, and/or jump to, a section easily by tapping on the ‘Song Sections’ button in the upper left hand corner, and selecting a part. Not only is this useful from the track sequencer, but also from instrument pages. Instead of returning to the track sequencer to position the playhead for recording, you can simply select a part from the ‘Song Sections’ menu and the playhead will position itself at the beginning of that section… Brilliant! It’d be awesome to see more studio apps add something like this, especially ones that run on iPhone. The smaller the screen, the more shortcuts you need…
