Windows 8 has something iOS doesn’t: BIG SCREENS

Update! Check this out:

Update! In case you missed it, here’s Jordan’s entire performance!

Update: See Herrmutt Lobby‘s comment below.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what it iOS would be if there was a giant iPad. It seemed like a silly idea at first but after watching Jordan rock the Windows 8 conference, it seems like exactly what iOS needs. Think about it. Apps like MIDI Designer, or Beatsurfing could hold so much more content on the screen! Beatsurfing would be especially cool, it would be like a great big interactive audio environment! Many other apps come to mind with all kinds of potential benefits… If you can think of one, leave a comment below!

There would be no need for two iPads, which prevents the possibility of one giant app, and can get expensive (but then again, you would be buying something very big from Apple and it definitely wouldn’t be cheap). Another possibility could be running 3 or 4 iPad apps on one big screen. Maybe we’ll see a Cydia (jailbreak) tweak in the future that lets you hook up your iPad to a giant touch screen and interact with multiple apps at once.

Regardless of how it all plays out, Jordan definitely started something here…

Bigger dosent mean better…cool possibilities maybe…but the whole point of portable is being missed here..soundcloud is full of fantastic musicians making they’re tracks commuting or within they’re family environments …a whole studio of gear would be cool…but again cost and practicality is being forgotten …the new iPad with its processing power is what I’m mostly excited about…and it will fit in the same place as my old one…in my lap! :))

yeah, this post completely throws mobility out of the picture, but a giant iPad just sounds too cool! ;)

The latency is really the only thing holding it back at this point, hopefully Jordan will get that message across to them…

Yes…but the same since years with android! The other side could be that apple change their way a bit. The true is that only the music apps let me stay with ios (and let be bought a new iPhone 5)! But my eyes are open. In all other things they are behind the others (just my opinion)! My Love/Hate! The Surface Pro could be a real music machine ; )

The trouble is people are always looking for something new..human nature…but the truth is there are loads of apps out there with untapped potential for creation…having too much choice dosent help creativity it actually stifles it…trying to bend rules to get the most out of something is where real creativity is born…of course choice is useful ….but there’s plenty of life left in what’s currently on offer for music creation..I’m more interested in what people are learning about current apps…that’s of much more use to me and creation

Totally agree. We always want more but truly creative and talented people can do great things with less.

  6. we have aviseo 200t 20″ touch screen for year snow, but his latency is jut to slow. It’s seems kind of better on this Lenovo but still to slow:(

Beatsurfing on big screen? Fuking yes it’s like sport! Portability ? Personally I don’t care.

That tweak already exists, and it’s quite cool for music: it’s called Quasar. True ios multitasking!

Well, guys, I was at BUILD and saw no problem with latency when Jordan played the 26″ or the Surface RT. The way Windows Phone 7 did things, there was definitely lag, but Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and RT should have no such problems.

Bring on the Windows 8 cross platform apps, I say.

of course this probably depends on the software we’re talking about too, Jordan’s developer prob. has a lot of experience w/ audio latency.

saw the same thing with Image Line when bringing FL Studio to Android ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kPX5xTPRKU ) android has poor audio latency, but if the devs have a lot of exp/man power they can prob. get it to work…..
