Are you tired of only being able to shop for iOS music apps on the app store? Wouldn’t it be nice if they were sorted into different categories like synthesizers, drum machines, guitar processors, DAWs, ect…? Or by features like Core MIDI, Virtual MIDI, or AudioCopy…? If so, I’d like to introduce to you, The iOS Musician App Database! On your iPhone or iPad, you can now sort through synths, DAWs, tuners, notation editors, you name it – it’s there! No more shopping for ‘music apps’ on iTunes, discover new apps by category, and feature! Welcome, to the new way to shop iOS music apps…
Note: If you see apps listed twice, it’s because the iPad and iPhone versions are listed seperately while viewing from a desktop computer. While viewing on iPhone/iPad, only the relavent apps/app versions are shown.
“This is awesome! Can I help make it more awesome?”
Yes! You can! As I’m sure you all know, there are loads of music making apps. Collecting, and categorizing every single one by type and features would take a while. I’ve been working on this for about 3 months, and there’s still a long way to go, but you can help! If you notice something, like a Core MIDI compliant app missing from the Core MIDI listing, or a guitar tuner app missing from the guitar tuners listing, please fill out the short forum below to let me know, and please be as specific as possible!
For example, say a there’s a synthesizer app that supports Dropbox, but it can only upload .WAV recordings to Dropbox, don’t just tell me just that it supports Dropbox, include every detail you’re aware of!
We can do this!!!
As I mentioned above, I’ve been working on this database for about 3 months now, if you’re feeling supportive, please consider donating to the iOS Musician Blog…

Nice work! I have searched in the past for something like this.
Let me just throw this idea out there and you can ignore it if you want but it seems your site and others like Dischord, Smitematter, Palmsounds, etc that you frequently have articles on eachothers sites are more for serious musicians. I was wondering if you can or would consider having a rating system by your readers as well as the one from the App store. I think that sometimes you get people on the app store who want a app that you would literally push one or two buttons and make some killer track, unrealistic. That being said you look at the negative comments on nearly any app that most on here love and you will see what I mean.
Or even a place for your readers to comment on the said apps. I was very close to buying Cubasis the other day when I read that it is not all it is cracked out to be. Having that info from people who actually use their ipads/iphones to make music would be fantastic.
Just an idea.
Thanks again for your time and effort on this.

Yeah, great database! Well done. I miss a top-level filter for iOS devices. For ex. there is 3 times GarageBand. For Mac/IPod/IPhone/IPad. So my first choice would depend on the device I have.

Congrats on making this app! This will be a very valuable tool for many people like me. I will contribute to the app by using the page you setup to provide other apps to the list you may have missed. Thanks again!
