Remember this? What if there was an iPad available in that size? Would you invest in such a thing? Do you think it’s a good idea? A bad idea? Apple’s going to have to enter the touch screen computing world someway or another, could this be the entry point? Share your thoughts in a comment below!
If this sounds like crazy idea to you, imagine using some of these apps on an iPad that’s 3 times as big…
-Beatsurfing
-MorphWiz
-Geo Synthesizer
-NodeBeat
There have been dozens of other attempts to turn the iPad into a full fledge musical instrument, the only thing that’s holding it back at this point is it’s screen size.

I would like that extra real estate for Retronyms Tabletop…

Absolutely want ipad LARGE. I’ve got so many ipad apps, and now with the iconnect MIDI coming out, it makes iOS that much stronger in the music making arena. I want some of the original size, some large, and some Mini, all serving modular purposes.

The only reason my iPad running Lemur didn’t make ALL my other gear somewhat redundant rather than just most of it, probably comes down to simple screen real-estate. I was stunned by how much menu-diving I can tolerate (or actively embrace) with Lemur. Even just a few extra square inches on the current iPad would allow me to do proper, conducive Lemur mock-ups of almost every controller I have. So yes, I would ABSOLUTELY consider buying a giant iPad.

I was just thinking about this earlier. In some ways its the leap from iphone to ipad that makes me think a bigger iPad would be good, more space to see the mixer…just more space.
Obviously is a weigh up between portability and usability – would a 15″ / 17″ tablet be as convenient to pull out on a packed train?
You’re right about Apple entering the touchscreen world, a lot of people were banking on the last iMac release to reveal this.
The bottom line for me is that I find “traditional” computer input really clunky now after embracing the iPad, I would totally welcome a desktop for posh mixdown…

I use the iPad for music all the time, and my only complaint is screen size. WANT iPAD MONDO NOW!

Maybe not a giant iPad, but maybe a 15 inch screen version would be an ideal size while still being portable.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about this for a while. I would eventually like to see an “iPad Pro” with a larger (maybe 15″) screen and beefed up CPU/RAM. I think this would make a lot of sense as more and more DAWs and video editing programs are released, and would probably spur even more development. I would like to see Logic Express make its return on iOS and make full use of extra screen real estate, RAM and CPU power that an iPad Pro would offer.

Apple has said that they’ve done a lot of testing with touchscreens on desktop and laptop computers, and that their decision not to ship such is a result of those tests.
Bigger iPads do start to lose the mobility of the current iPad.
But I do believe that iOS will eventually expand to non-mobile devices. But I don’t think those devices are going to resemble current desktop and laptop computers.
