Too much setting up? [Part 2]

I’ve been doing some more brainstorming on Audiobus setups and how they could be tied in with settings inside other apps. If you haven’t already read it, you can find part one here.

Using Audiobus with DAW apps is great, but having to load all of the settings in each app has become somewhat problematic for me. I think it would be awesome if, in addition to saving connection pannel setups, Audiobus could save patches in Magellan, beats in iElectribe, projects in BeatMaker 2, presets in JamUp, ect. Think about it, just by opening up a project, everything you were doing inside every app you were using could be exactly the same, and you could (literally) pick up right where you left off. While beta testing the BeatMaker 2 Audiobus update and using it to mix apps live, having to re-connect every app and the settings inside each app got old fast. Being able to simply load everything at once could really go far in terms of convenience and capturing insertional moments…

Audiobus: A Game Changer

Just in case you haven’t heard, Audiobus has been approved by Apple! This is definitely a milestone / landmark for iOS audio. No more copying from app a to app b, or using Virtual MIDI to get multiple apps playing at the same time and sacrificing the mix. In addition to opening up new mixing possibilities, this will just make things easier by letting you hook apps up to each other and access record/play buttons (and hopefully more settings) from any Audiobus supported app with the in-app connection panel. But most importantly, Audiobus will allow you to play audio in app a and process it live in app b. Stay tuned everybody, this is going to be epic! iOS music making will never be the same.

Crunchtime for mobile music – Article by Ashley Elsdon

I’m a bit late on this one, but I just found this article by @IamAshleyElsdon (Palm Sounds) on the Music4point5 blog entitled Crunchtime for mobile music. After reading it, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about what we’ll see in the future…

Four iPad Music Apps Featured in RollingStone!

GarageBand, Rebirth, NLogSynth Pro, and Looptastic featured in issue 1129 of RollingStone.

I was reading the April 2011 (issue # 1129) issue of RollingStone and on page 67 there was a mini article entitled, “The Best New Instrument: The iPad.” It’s great to see that iPad music making is getting professional coverage! This shows lots of potential for the iPad as a music making platform.

Touch Producer: The future of iOS MIDI

Very interesting article on the future of iOS MIDI by Touch Producer. I agree, more developers need to add MIDI Clock Sync support. The ability to have apps play together (on different iDevices, or on the same device via multitasking) will allow more sophisticated performances with iOS devices.Palm Sounds brought up another goal for us to look forward to: being able to record yourself playing in one app, in another app. I like to think of apps like Modrum and Bassline as instruments, and apps like MultiTrack DAW and FourTrack as recording software. Being able to record software instrument apps using recording software apps, all inside one iDevice would be another huge step forward. Sure, being able to come up with ideas in apps like Modrum or Bassline is cool, but imagine if you could record all your different ideas from different apps into one complete song, all in one iDevice…
