The Synthesia-like 50in1 Piano app for iPad has been updated with 80 new song lessons, and a few bug fixes. Still no MIDI file lesson import though. Hopefully it’ll happen soon…

There’s a thread on the Synthesia forum for the upcoming iPad version. The developer recently posted an update with pricing and other info. Synthesia is like the lesson feature in 50in1 Piano, except you can import any MIDI file to use and learn…
Here’s what was said:
“My plans right now are going to be to have the app be free to download with the Learning Pack features being an in-app purchase for something around $2.99 (still trying to figure out the best pricing). While not compatible with PC/Mac Learning Pack purchases, on iOS it would be perpetual after a single purchase (much like the desktop version).
I wanted to keep the process as simple as possible with regard to the unlock process and in-app purchases are something all iPad users already understand. It’s one or two clicks versus trying to find a way to copy a huge block of text from an email account that may or may not be setup on your device. Being able to stay right inside the app is also a better experience, too.
All of this is contingent on finding a SoundFont I can ship with the app that meets all the appropriate licensing criteria. I’ve peeked at a few other MIDI-enabled apps with a built-in synth and I’m not convinced any of the smaller ones are legal at all. Bunch of SoundFont files with text like “copyright 1997 Roland Corp.” repeated every few hundred bytes in an app that makes no mention of any third party copyrights at all.
I’ve been scouring the Internet and contacting a ton of companies about licensing fonts, but it’s still a work in progress.”

3. Open MIDI file or EP file from email directly.

“The Global banks (A, B and C) contain presets which are shared between all projects. Banks A and B contain a wide range of example presets to get you started, but you are free to overwrite them with your own. Bank C is initially empty.
The Project bank contains presets which are specific to the current project. This is a good place to save presets when you don’t want them to be affected by other projects.”
So its basically a way to save a favorite tone preset and use it in more than one project…
