MidiBridge, MidiVision, and FreEWI updated with MIDI OMAC fast switching

Audeonic has updated all of their apps with MIDI OMAC fast switching! They all respond to OMAC switching messages and MidiBridge has a facility for binding incoming MIDI messages from MIDI equipment or software to an app including the provision of ‘next’ and ‘previous’ controls. If you’re a developer and you would like to add MIDI fast switching to your app, see this thread.

A user guide is available. App list coming soon.

OMAC Fast Switching registry updated with MIDI switching

Audeonic has updated the OMAC Fast Switching registry (login: omac password: registry) with MIDI switching which will allow switching between apps with a MIDI controller:

No more multitasking menu / 4-5 finger gestures while using music apps!

Switch between apps with a MIDI controller

Update: Check out this video demo!

I posted a thread on the Open Music App Collaboration (OMAC) Google Group on switching between apps using a MIDI controller. The idea was originally inspired by Rheyne, who usually uses more iOS devices in his live looping jams than most iOS users have. I thought that if there was a way to switch between iOS apps from an external source (a MIDI controller), using your multiple apps on one iPad live would be easier. The 4/5 finger gesture switching can press buttons or turn knobs, and double tapping the home button to open the multitasking menu is too much of a hassle (in a live setting).

Nic G from Audeonic Apps has proposed a strategy to accomplish this but we need an “I’m in” from a reasonable amount of developers before it gets implemented. If you’re a developer and would like to add this to your app, check out Nic G’s proposal here.

Quick App Tip #17: MoDrum OMAC Fast App Switching menu shortcut

iOS’s multitasking is great for typical usage, but with music apps, it can certainly get in the way of things. So I thought I’d make this Quick App Tip about Finger Pro’s MoDrum, which features an awesome fast app switcher shortcut. Instead of relying on the menu item that’s tucked away in the app’s settings, you can easily open the app switcher by left-swiping the session’s title at the top of the screen. A much quicker and simpler way to switch between apps, which is always great for mobility. Especially mobile creativity, in which a simple but powerful user interface can make all the difference.

In MoDrum for iPhone / iPod Touch, swipe left.

OMAC Idea: In-App App Switching (not using Multitasking)

When I’m messing around with two VMP (Virtual MIDI Port) apps, I end up opening the multitasking menu at least ten times, switching back and forward between apps. I don’t know about you, but I really don’t like having to open the multitasking menu (double-tapping the home button) ever time I need to switch. Not because I’m lazy, (well… sorta =P ) but because it’s (from what I’ve heard, let me know if I’m wrong here) bad for the life span of your iDevice… I mean, every button wares out and stops working eventually, right? Again, let me know if I’m wrong here…

With just two taps, you can switch
from MoDrum to BassLine,
and BassLine to MoDrum, without
touching the home button.

So, maybe apps with VMPs should do what finger did here… And add an in-app shortcut to another app. I’m not saying that developers should go adding a bunch of these for random apps, that would be too much. But instead, add the ability to (if it’s possible…) detect what apps they’re connected with, and add an in-app shortcut for them!

What do you think? Is this possible? stupid? pointless? a good idea? Comment below……
