Audiobus in Audulus for iPad…?

What if…

Make an app a node…? (That would be epic).

I emailed the developers:

I’m going to at least make Audulus an Audiobus client. I agree — it would be really cool to have apps as nodes, but I’m guessing Audiobus isn’t going to make it easy for another app to act as a server, since that’s what their app does. We’ll see once they release.

[New] MIDI Studio for iPhone and iPad

Description:

[!!! Be careful this application does not provide a sound, it is to control the sound in the studio - it's not a sequencer, it's the midi controller]

Midi Studio it’s great midi controller for your home or professional studio. WIth this application you can play on a virtual keyboard, move faders, knobs, play with drums pad. One of the best feature of this application, it’s playing your notes with velocity sensitivity, you can hit the screen, stronger or weaker. Also you can change modulation using the surface of the keys, you can change a pitch, you can use built-in arpeggiator and many other interesting features.

Midi Studio Features:
-[CoreMidi]
-[WI-FI]
-[USB]
-[True Velocity Sensitive ] (with the force of impact)
-[Modulation]
-[Drums]
-[Faders]
-[Knobs]
-[Buttons]
-[Touch pads]
-[Two Keyboards]
-[Different Keys Size]
-[Custom Key Scale] – (Like: Major, Minor, Klezmer, etc…)

Their website has a list of features that they will be implementing in version 2.0:

In next version of Midi Studio we plan to implement following things:

  1. Ability to create your own layouts/templates and controls. - It will be interesting and a big update, so in theory your controller in Midi Studio can be look same as your favorite working device/vst plugin… Imagine that you see on the iPad/iPhone screen – Ableton Live’s plug-ins, Logic’s synths/effects, some vst/au plugins like MiniMoog, some hardware synths or mixers like Mackie Control, Behringer, etc. And all this can be have exactly the same look, so left for you only touch with your finger on a screen then control your work with it. It may be downloaded already created templates by us or you can create your own controls with different layouts.
  2. Basic transport Controls at the top of the screen.
  3. On/off solo, rec buttons near faders. etc.
  4. Longer faders, Horizontal faders
  5. Jog
  6. Dial
  7. Different Velocity Presets
  8. A more different key sizes
  9. Ableton Live presets for (Midi Sync settings)

More Thoughts on the Mobile POD and Mobile In from Line 6

Line 6 Mobile In Portable Audio InterfaceThe Mobile POD (App Store link) and Mobile In (Musicians Friend) from Line 6 offer a solid high quality (dock) interface for guitars and other instruments. The one thing it doesn’t offer though, is a line out… Somewhat of a let down if you were looking to preform, because you’ll be stuck with your iPhone’s headphone jack. This will probably never happen (considering how big of a company Line 6 is) but it’d be nice for an in-app-purchase to be added allowing use with other iOS interfaces. It’d probably be no less than $19.99 (the usual cost of gear simulation apps) as you would be avoiding Line 6′s deal: get our interface and you don’t have to buy the app. If you think about it though, that’s pretty fair because there are no in-app-purchases in the Mobile POD, so you’d only be spending $80 total (the cost of the interface). It’s just that line out that’s bugging me… Line 6 did release a 2nd version of their original Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer, so who knows, maybe we’ll be blessed with a Mobile In II…

The Mobile POD app is only compatible with the Mobile In, but you can still download it to see all the gear.

What Apps Need: Music Studio, NanoStudio, BeatMaker 2: Song Sections

GarageBand for iPad has this, and it’s soooooo useful! If you’re in an app like Music Studio, and your song is anything more than 30 measures, you dont want to constantly be zooming out and hunting for the next part of the song you want to work on. GarageBand’s ‘Song Sections’ feature takes complete care of this. You can zoom in, and/or jump to, a section easily by tapping on the ‘Song Sections’ button in the upper left hand corner, and selecting a part. Not only is this useful from the track sequencer, but also from instrument pages. Instead of returning to the track sequencer to position the playhead for recording, you can simply select a part from the ‘Song Sections’ menu and the playhead will position itself at the beginning of that section… Brilliant! It’d be awesome to see more studio apps add something like this, especially ones that run on iPhone. The smaller the screen, the more shortcuts you need…

What Apps Need: SongSterr: The Wikipedia of Playable Guitar/Bass/Drum Tabs

SongSterr is a legal (song artists get paid) online guitar/bass/drum tab player where songs are updated by users just like articles are updated on Wikipedia. This provides for highly accurate tabs, and best of all: you can listen to the tab and follow along as it scrolls across your iPhone! It’s also got a Most Viewed section, which is a great way to find other songs to learn. Brilliant system they’ve got there! But…

It Needs:

The ability to hear all of the tracks at once. While the ability to listen to a track in isolation is important, being able to follow along with a track in the mix is importnat too! By lacking this feature, the app looses some usefulness points in the category of learning entire songs… Hopefully well see an update soon.

(This is a pretty basic one…) What Apps Need: FL Studio Mobile

Version 1.0 of FL Studio Mobile is great, in the future it’d be great to see:
  1. The ability to select all the notes in a track in the piano roll editor…
  2. Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer support, this would be relieving to see for L6MM owners, as Core MIDI is somewhat taking over…
  3. The ability to import a MIDI file and keep the current tracks, in other words, combine the tracks in a MIDI file with the current project. Currently, when you import a MIDI file, it starts a new project with only the tracks from the file…
  4. A store to buy more instruments via In App Purchases.

What I’d Like to See Next in Piano Angel…

I was playing with Piano Angel for a bit and came up with some features that’d make the app better:

  • Larger Settings, Lock, and Help buttons. I don’t have a problem with them, but I can imagine some probably do…
  • An option to have the chords advance manually.
  • The option to add more than 8 chords.
  • Chord looping is coming, but, here’s how I would like to see it:
If looping is enabled, you would choose how many times a chord is played from the same screen that is used to select what chord is played (you get to this screen by holding down the chord box; as long as Chord Editing is enabled in the settings). If chord looping is not enabled, then every chord is played only once, but all of your presets are saved for next time you turn chord looping on.
  • More instrument sounds (electric piano, some synths, guitar, ect…)
  • More options to how the chords are played (currently this is listed as, Chord Intensity, in the settings).

Here are the features coming in version 1.2:

- Recording your singing from microphone input along with piano!
- MIDI Receive Fix for occasional note loss from MIDI sequencer
- Improved auto playing chord note sequence
- Support for earlier iOS models (with reduced audio quality)
(iPhone 3G/iPod Touch 2th Gen or earlier)

Other new features in progress:
- Chord sequence looping (in a simple way!)
